Class Procedures
During the course of 8th grade physical education class, we will be focusing on how to do a variety of exercises with correct form and technique. Every week students in my physical education class will be introduced to fun and exciting movement based activities into our routine. Students will learn terminology for basic muscle groups, explain proper form for each exercise, and how these movements can be used as a lifetime fitness activity. In order to be "physically fit", students must be successful in all four domains of fitness. These domains include:
1. STRENGTH: the amount of force that muscles can apply to an object. (Example: push ups, sit-ups, bench press)
2. ENDURANCE: the ability to do a variety of movements for more than a few minutes without stopping. (Example: running 1 mile, mountain biking, roller blading)
3. FLEXIBILITY: the ability to bend and twist joints easily. (Example: toe touch, splits, sit and reach)
4. BODY COMPOSITION: comparing the weight of muscles to fat in the body. (Example: caliper test, BMI Index)

Grading Procedures
Each day, students will be graded on a variety of areas. Students will have a chance to earn up to 5 points a day, that will in turn factor into their weekly grade. All units will be 2 weeks long. At the end of the first week, students will take a skills test based on performance of skills taught. At the culminating part of the unit (2nd week), students will take a written test covering information about what was learned throughout the unit. A study guide will also be handed out to help them prepare for the written test.
